iOS App
Hours Away
Their hours, in your time.

A world clock that answers a question. Hours Away says in one sentence when the people you work with can be reached, in your own time, and marks the hours everyone shares. For iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
My role · Concept, design, code
Problem
I work in Berlin with people in Quito. Before every message I opened the clock, saw 7:30 AM and started counting. Every world clock showed me their time. None answered what I wanted to know: can I reach them now, and if not, when?
What I built
An app that answers that in one sentence, in the reader's own time: "Quito is reachable from 4:00 PM." It works with working hours and working days, not with the bare time zone. Under the sentence, every place is a lane on one line of time. An outline is their working day. A filled block is the hours everyone shares.
What is in it
- Two start screens: the tape, and the same day as rings on a dial.
- A globe with the real day and night line, sunrise and sunset in each city.
- A notice when someone becomes reachable, one switch per place.
- Trip mode: every place seen as if you had already landed.
- The next shared hour goes into the calendar with one tap.
- Widgets for Home Screen and Lock Screen, an Apple Watch app with complications.
- Places follow the Apple Account through iCloud. No account, no server.
- Four looks (Day, Night, Sea, Lilac), 15 languages, 577 cities.
Screens

How it was made
One typeface, Geologica, in five sizes. One radius. Two colours per look. One rule for the drawing: outline means their hours, fill means shared hours. The whole app has no server. The purchase is one payment, once: one place is free, the rest opens with it.
