What the app keeps, and where

Your places, their hours, the names you give them, your own hours, your trip and your settings.

They are kept on your iPhone or iPad and handed to your own Apple Watch.

If you use iCloud, they are also kept in your own iCloud, so they appear on your other devices. Apple stores them under your Apple Account. The maker of the app cannot read them.

The app has no account of its own.

What leaves your device, and when

  • Your rough position, only if you switch on “Follow my location”. It goes to Apple, which answers with the name of the city. Hours Away keeps the city. It does not keep the position.
  • A purchase. It is made with Apple. If this version of the app reports purchases to RevenueCat, the purchase is recorded there too, under a random identifier, without your name.
  • Usage numbers, only if you switch on “Share usage numbers”. Counts of what is used, such as a place added or the offer opened. No city, no name, no position. They go to PostHog, on servers in the EU.
  • An event you add to your calendar. “Add to calendar” opens Apple’s own sheet. The app does not read your calendar and does not ask for access to it.

Nothing else is sent. There is no advertising and no tracking across other apps or websites.

Notifications

A notice that a place can be reached is planned on your device. It is not sent by a server.

Removing your data

Deleting the app removes everything it kept on the device. What is kept in your iCloud is removed in the phone’s Settings, under your name, iCloud, Manage Storage. Usage numbers can be switched off in Settings at any time.
