Honey Lou Bar // Berlin DE

Interieur Design, Concept, Owner

Berlin´s nightlife often feels cold and impersonal. Honey Lou was born from a desire of my Co-Founder Paul Rieck & me to change that to create a bar where warmth, music, and human connection take center stage. A place where sound, design, and energy come together to make people feel at home.

Interieur

From the start, we knew the light had to be sunset orange—a feeling of endless sunsets, radiating warmth, energy, and connection. Inspired by Neukölln's character, we combined two worlds: the charm of an old Berlin Kneipe, with our 1910 bar counter, and the sleek accents of modern elegance. The result is a stylish yet grounded space, where tradition meets contemporary design, creating an inviting atmosphere for everyone.

Acoustics

One key insight was that bars are often too loud, with poor acoustics dominated by echoes and reverb. To address this, we carefully studied the acoustics of our space and designed custom sound-absorbing panels that seamlessly blend into our interior design. This creates an environment where people can enjoy conversations at a comfortable, natural volume—free from the stress of overwhelming noise.

Live Music Curation

Living in Berlin, it’s impossible to ignore the city’s techno-dominated culture. Paul and I, as passionate fans of subculture music, dreamed of creating a space where our own music tastes could thrive. The bar’s identity is deeply rooted in hosting regular bossa nova, salsa, and jazz concerts—genres that bring soulful warmth to the city’s nightlife. We recognized a growing interest in Latin and bossa nova music, which is still a niche in Berlin, and our TikTok videos capturing these events have organically gone viral, reaching over 150,000 views. One thing is certain: you won’t find techno here, only music that speaks to the soul.

Vinyl DJ booth / Listening Bar

We recently upgraded our vinyl DJ booth in collaboration with designer Aquiles Jarrín and his studio, Morphism. The vision was to infuse our bar with the charm of a Japanese vinyl listening café, seamlessly blending it with our unique style. We regularly host vinyl collectors and DJs from around the world, each bringing their soulful interpretation of the Honey Lou experience.
